Christmas in Granada

For Christmas 2027, join us in Granada at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains in Southern Spain, for a unique festive experience plus visits to a host of attractions in this region so rich in history.

Granada exudes a distinct Moorish charm as the last city reclaimed by the Catholic Monarchs in 1492, and we explore the stunning architecture which blends elements of both Islamic and Christian styles. With guided visits to the impressive Alhambra Palace and Generalife, and day trips to Cordoba’s stunning Mosque-Cathedral and Antequera with its megalithic architecture, this tour takes in the very best of Andalusia, with plenty of free time to soak up the local festive atmosphere.

Whether you’re drawn by rich history, stunning landscapes or unforgettable cultural encounters, this itinerary gives you everything you need to picture your adventure and look forward to every step of the way.

Exact order of excursions may vary according to local conditions and tour manager’s discretion.

Day 1: Fly to Málaga and Transfer to Granada

Transfer to Granada (140 km) and check in to our hotel. Welcome dinner this evening.

Day 2: Granada’s Old Quarter, Cathedral and Royal Chapel

A leisurely morning will be spent exploring the historic city of Granada on foot, a fascinating crossroads of cultures and religions. We will enjoy a guided tour to learn a little about the city’s historic highlights, including its Old Quarter with whitewashed buildings and charming streets leading to views of the Alhambra Palace; the Renaissance and Baroque-style Cathedral and Royal Chapel.

The rest of the day will be free for you to explore at leisure and take in the city’s Christmas atmosphere and market.

Day 3: Alhambra and Generalife

Overlooking Granada is the stunning Alhambra Palace, which was built by the Nasrid dynasty between 1238 and 1358 and used as a military fortress until 1492. We take a guided tour of this extremely well-preserved complex with its intricate Islamic architecture and beautiful gardens with many water features.

Next we visit the adjacent Generalife, a beautiful summer palace built in the 14th century as a country retreat for the Nasrid kings and renowned for its stunning gardens. Return to Granada for free time before a festive dinner this evening at the hotel.

Day 4: Christmas Day

Full day at leisure to relax in the hotel or explore Granada independently. Christmas Day lunch at the hotel.

Day 5: Full day Antequera

Today we head west to the ancient town of Antequera, known as ‘The heart of Andalusia’ due its central location in the region. We take a guided tour of the Old Quarter with its narrow streets and traditional architecture, and the archaeological site of the Dolmens of Viera, Menga and El Romeral – three monuments dating back to the Neolithic and Bronze ages.

We have free time for lunch (own expense) to explore this charming city. In the afternoon we visit the Museo de la Ciudad de Antequera. We then continue on to Granada for the evening at leisure.

Day 6: Full day Cordoba

This morning we drive north west to Cordoba. Situated by the Guadalquivir River, Cordoba was a key Roman city due to its strategic location.

We explore the historic Old Quarter, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, including the archaeological site of Medina Azahara a fortified palace-city built in the 10th century. The highlight of our guided tour is the Mezquita-Catedral (mosque-cathedral) with its stunning architecture blending Islamic and Christian elements. Originally built as a mosque in the 8th century, it was converted into a cathedral in 1236, and is a visual masterpiece with a mix of columns, arches, and mosaics to admire. Free time to take in the city’s renowned Moorish architecture before returning to Granada.

Day 7: Free day in Granada

Full day at leisure to relax or explore independently. This evening we attend a flamenco show and farewell dinner.

Day 8: Málaga and Return Home

We return to Malaga with time to explore independently – visit the Old Quarter and Alcazaba, which is one of the best-preserved in Spain. At the foot of the fortress is the remnants of a Roman theatre dating back to the 1st century AD. Transfer to Malaga Airport for return flight to London Gatwick.

Tour FAQ

If you have a question, we are more than happy to answer it via email or phone, but you may find your answer below more quickly.

Simply complete our online booking form or give us a call on 020 7251 0045 between 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday where you can speak to a real person. A 20% deposit per person is required at the time of booking, to book your place. Payments by debit card or credit card incur no charge.

You must pay for the balance of your holiday at least 12 weeks before departure. A reminder will be sent to you approximately 10 days before the balance due date. If you book your holiday within 12 weeks of departure, full payment is required at time of booking. Please note that some tours may require final payment to be paid earlier than 12 weeks, due to financial commitment with suppliers. The exact date will be notified to you at the time of booking. Final joining instructions and documentation will be dispatched approximately 10 days before travel.

In almost all cases, the price includes your accommodation, meals as described in the itinerary, all excursions shown in the programme, and travel arrangements from the UK. Excursions are taken by private coach exclusively for Travel Editions guests. If anything is ever excluded from the price, it will be clearly marked as optional and payable locally, you won’t find any hidden extras on your final bill. Travel Editions operates a firm no-surcharge policy, so the price you are quoted is the price you pay.

The specifics vary by tour and are set out in your individual itinerary, but most of our tours depart from London, either by Eurostar from St Pancras International or by air. For rail tours, we advise allowing at least one hour before the Eurostar departure when planning your journey to London. For flights, all costs are based on economy class unless otherwise stated, and all times shown are local time. For tours in the UK, these often start at the hotel in question.

Flight upgrades and connections from regional airports are available on request and subject to availability, contact us on 020 7251 0045 or at tours@traveleditions.co.uk for details. We strongly recommend not booking non-refundable connecting travel until you have received your final joining instructions, which are sent around 10 days before departure and confirm all timings and meeting points.

Yes, and you’re very welcome. Single room supplements apply on most tours, reflecting the fact that single and double rooms are generally priced similarly by hotels. If you would prefer to share with another solo traveller of the same gender, we are happy to arrange this, simply let us know at the time of booking. Sharing is subject to another traveller in the same situation being booked on the same tour.

Each tour is accompanied by a dedicated tour manager, who in most cases will travel out from the UK with the group. On some tours, the tour manager will meet you at your destination station or airport, with full details being confirmed in your joining instructions 10 days before travel. Many of our tours are also led by expert lecturers or specialist guides whose knowledge brings each destination to life; details of who will be accompanying your particular tour are included in the individual tour pages and itineraries.
