Alassio

Day 1: Arrival in Alassio

Fly from London Gatwick to Nice. On arrival in Nice transfer over the border into Italy and on to Alassio (approx. 1 hour 30 minutes).

Alassio

Day 2: Alassio at Leisure

The seaside resort of Alassio is well-known for its spectacular natural setting and beautiful views. Along its seafront of sandy beaches you’ll find a lovely promenade lined with excellent bars and cafes, and the cobbled streets of the pedestrianized town centre make for a relaxed afternoon stroll.

Essential listening is Edward Elgar’s concert-overture In the South (Alassio) which he composed while on holiday here in the winter of 1903.

Portofino Xmas

Day 3: Santa Margherita and Portofino

Santa Margherita is a small, lovely and picturesque resort set on an inlet. The town is full of grand hotels and villas in lush gardens all looking out over the sparkling blue of the bay. Enjoy this beautiful resort with a gentle stroll or relaxing in a café watching the world go by.

Tiny Portofino nestled in a protected inlet amongst cypress and olive trees, with colourful houses, mansions shrouded by trees and plenty of bars and cafes. Just above the town you’ll find San Giorgio church, said to contain relics of the dragon slayer himself.

Genoa

Day 4: Historic Genoa

Italy’s largest port, Genoa has been a prosperous economic centre for centuries, which has created a city full of impressive landmarks and a glorious heritage and earning the nickname ‘La Superba’.

The old town is a medieval warren, part of which is UNESCO-listed, spotted with palazzi that have been converted into world class museums and art galleries.

Monaco Xmas

Day 5: Monaco, Monte Carlo and Christmas Eve Dinner

The principality of Monaco may be a tiny 1.9 square km, but you’d be hard pushed to find as much luxury anywhere else. Ruled over by its famous royal family and full of lavish hotels, luxury tower blocks, gleaming super cars and a harbour stuffed with multi-million pound yachts, Monaco is a fascinating place to visit.

See the famous Casino de Monte-Carlo and Hotel de Paris and soak up the ambience.

Alassio

Day 6: Christmas Day in Alassio

With a festive lunch at the hotel, the rest of today is free for you to explore independently or relax and unwind.

Alassio

Day 7: Alassio at Leisure and Villa Hanbury Gardens

This morning we have time to spend at leisure in Alassio and enjoy any local traditions and festivities – perhaps join the locals with a morning dip in the sea! This afternoon we travel to the Villa Hanbury Gardens for a guided tour. Laid out by Sir Thomas Hanbury in the mid-19th century the gardens are a dramatic 100 acre site on a promontory and are planted with a wide range of specimens.

Day 8: Return Flight from Nice

Transfer to Nice airport for flight to London Gatwick.

Recent reviews

“The highlight of our holiday was the wonderful atmosphere created by our Tour Manager, Tessa Say. She was outstanding—more than 5*—completely conversant with all aspects of the organisation and answered any enquiries with care and courtesy. I admired the relaxed way she engaged with drivers and hotel staff alike. Tessa was always calm and unruffled, on top of everything, and completely professional in every way. The antipasti bar was exceptionally good at breakfast and dinner. The hotel was very clean, with absolutely charming staff throughout, and our coach driver, Roberto, was excellent. Tessa made the group feel like longtime friends, ensuring the trip was smooth, enjoyable, and memorable.”

Tour FAQ

If you have a question, we are more than happy to answer it via email or phone, but you may find your answer below more quickly.

Simply complete our online booking form or give us a call on 020 7251 0045 between 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday where you can speak to a real person. A 20% deposit per person is required at the time of booking, to book your place. Payments by debit card or credit card incur no charge.

You must pay for the balance of your holiday at least 12 weeks before departure. A reminder will be sent to you approximately 10 days before the balance due date. If you book your holiday within 12 weeks of departure, full payment is required at time of booking. Please note that some tours may require final payment to be paid earlier than 12 weeks, due to financial commitment with suppliers. The exact date will be notified to you at the time of booking. Final joining instructions and documentation will be dispatched approximately 10 days before travel.

In almost all cases, the price includes your accommodation, meals as described in the itinerary, all excursions shown in the programme, and travel arrangements from the UK. Excursions are taken by private coach exclusively for Travel Editions guests. If anything is ever excluded from the price, it will be clearly marked as optional and payable locally, you won’t find any hidden extras on your final bill. Travel Editions operates a firm no-surcharge policy, so the price you are quoted is the price you pay.

The specifics vary by tour and are set out in your individual itinerary, but most of our tours depart from London, either by Eurostar from St Pancras International or by air. For rail tours, we advise allowing at least one hour before the Eurostar departure when planning your journey to London. For flights, all costs are based on economy class unless otherwise stated, and all times shown are local time. For tours in the UK, these often start at the hotel in question.

Flight upgrades and connections from regional airports are available on request and subject to availability, contact us on 020 7251 0045 or at tours@traveleditions.co.uk for details. We strongly recommend not booking non-refundable connecting travel until you have received your final joining instructions, which are sent around 10 days before departure and confirm all timings and meeting points.

Yes, and you’re very welcome. Single room supplements apply on most tours, reflecting the fact that single and double rooms are generally priced similarly by hotels. If you would prefer to share with another solo traveller of the same gender, we are happy to arrange this, simply let us know at the time of booking. Sharing is subject to another traveller in the same situation being booked on the same tour.

Each tour is accompanied by a dedicated tour manager, who in most cases will travel out from the UK with the group. On some tours, the tour manager will meet you at your destination station or airport, with full details being confirmed in your joining instructions 10 days before travel. Many of our tours are also led by expert lecturers or specialist guides whose knowledge brings each destination to life; details of who will be accompanying your particular tour are included in the individual tour pages and itineraries.
