Vincent Van Gogh is one of the most famous post-Impressionist painters. His work was famously under appreciated during his lifetime but today are the prize possessions of museums around the world. Vincent Van Gogh was born in the Brabant region of the Netherlands, the son of a pastor. His works are scattered around the globe but Brabant is where his roots are, and where his first masterpiece ‘The Potato Eaters’ was produced. This tour will explore the life and works in the company of Dr Peter Higginson. See the house where he was born, his art class school, the parsonage and churches where his father worked, and of course some of his most famous works at both the Kroller-Muller Museum and Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.

Dr Peter Higginson specialises in the art and culture of early modern Europe, and the modern period. He has taught numerous university courses abroad and has wide experience in leading cultural tours to different parts of Europe including Bilbao, Rome, Venice, Florence, Paris and further afield to Cuba. His enthusiasm, knowledge and commitment have earned him rave reviews from the many clients who have travelled with him on a Travel Editions’ tour over the past seven years.
Both the guide, Gill, and the lecturer, Peter Higginson, were excellent. Gill's knowledge of the Brabant region - and of Rotterdam and Amsterdam - was very impressive. Peter Higginson gave two lively and informative lectures which were very well illustrated. His research was impeccable and the talks were pitched just right. He was also very good indeed as a guide in the galleries. He helped us to look at the paintings closely and made many interesting comments; he was also very patient and never dismissed anyone's ideas or (sometimes odd!) comments. The coach driver was also very friendly and a good driver. The hotel in Den Bosch was very comfortable and the food very good.
